Maybe "we" are the problem

These days women empowerment has become the new hype. Everyday my Facebook TL is filled with feminist posts. Most of them talking about how women are deprived of their freedom, how they are constantly judged on their appearance and their choices, how men look at them as inferior beings and try to dominate them both physically and mentally, etc., etc. and I admit that I too have shared a lot many of them because, I too want a change in this orthodox outlook that people have.

Generally while talking about this issue most people declare the male population to be the culprits. Infact, most of the posts I've read are targeted at the male population (actually almost all the posts are targeted only at them). We call ours a Male Dominated Society. How did it come into existence? Isn't making woman a symbol of tenderness and man a symbol of strength a reason for it? Because, clearly when given a choice, women chose to be tender and not strong, they chose not to be equal. Then how are only men responsible for this condition? There are some very popular phrases that women use while discussing the atrocities on women like, "All men are dogs/pigs", "It's a male dominated society", "It's all because of male chauvinism". There is this another very popular phrase that my mom uses 'Aurat hi aurat ki dushman hoti hai' (a woman is another woman's enemy) and I find it very true.

                       AHLpW

All of us have seen those saas-bahu drama daily soaps. Did you ever wonder why those serials portray a woman in negative role, trying to spoil the lead female character's life? The bitter truth behind it being the female mentality.  Men don't tend to be interested in other person's life, but women do. We are jealous creatures and cannot digest other person's happiness or victory." And it seems apt to me. If we talk psychologically, I've always felt that women are more judgmental than men.

Have you watched Gumrah or Heroes? I don't know about the other crime shows but in many episodes of Gumrah and even of Heroes. They've shown how a woman manipulates her children or husband or both to think in a particular way about a girl on the basis of her clothes or on the basis of her company or her past or anything that she doesn't approve of. This is one of the main reasons rapists and molesters feel they have a chance with a girl. as they say, Not just the rapist but the whole society is the reason why rapes happen and society includes women too.

Dear Girls, let's do some simple calculations now, let's go down our memory lane and think of these common day to day incidences:

1. Living in a building or a colony or society you may have found people judging a girl on her dressing sense or on the time she return home or on how many guys she hangs out with and maybe even heard stories of her intimate moments with her boyfriend (trust me I have). Now calculate the number of times you heard them from an aunty and the times you heard them from an uncle.

2. You've surely received complement on your looks, dress, features, etc. (Because you are so fabulous darling!) You may have also received some tips and maybe some harsh comments too. Right? I bet almost all of them were from the aunties and the girlies in your friend circle. (You may have even heard "pata hai falane falane ne tere looks ke baare me kya bola?") and they will be like:

3. Just imagine yourself in your friend circle, just hanging out casually when suddenly a girl passes by, wearing a small dress with a lot of makeup. The boy's will comment on her with adjectives like patakha, hot, sexy, etc. but a girl may even call her a slut out of jealousy or maybe just sheer judgement of the length of the dress. But, this comment will only be made by a girl, not a boy, in any case. What does it tell us?

                                     486835_611217088903968_424530790_n

4. We all hear a lot many rumors, even about ourselves. Now just calculate the number of rumors you have heard in your life. How many of them were targeted on a girl and how many on a boy? Certainly the larger number would be for a girl. Now remember the people who told you about them. Well, in my case I found that most of the rumors were made up and almost all of them were delivered to me by a girl, even the boys' ones. I have even met girls who make rumors about themselves and girls who just take a simple commentary about their personality as insult. But, never a boy.

After being in all such situations, I've become pretty sure that it's the women population that has discovered the parameters of measuring beauty and maybe invented those fabulous fairness creams because those  desi nuskhes we receive every other day were just not enough. These judgments just don't end here, They'll even judge you if you are too ambitious because according to them the role of a girl is only to get married and have children and make rotis. Get married before turning 28 or they will automatically assume that you are not marriage material. Also, if you are a loud mouth then your mom must have told you to shut up like a zillion times now because your mother in law wouldn't approve of it, nor any other woman in that house. Why are you never told that the father in law won't like it? Or why aren't you given such advices by dad? Well, there's a reason to everything.

Okay, Enough talk about others, now analyse yourself. Admit it, We all are culprits of judging other girls, sharing others' secrets, spreading rumors, finding double meanings in someone's innocent reply, etc. etc. I know we all are. No one can say the their hands are clean. You see, it's in our basic nature. There is a reason why Mean Girls was such a big hit and is one of our all time favorite movie. We are made like that. We tend to do it, But it's not like we survive on it, right? We can reduce it or maybe even stop it.

I'm not saying that only girls are responsible for the condition of women in society, I am no one to say that. Neither I'm an expert nor I have done any kind of research or survey on this, I'm just saying it out of sheer experiences. Maybe some of these experiences only happen to a small town girl like me, but in the end these do happen and we need to think about them, talk about them.

There was a time when feminists were ridiculed and it seemed like a bad tag to people for being called a feminist and this still goes on. It's time we change our perspective about feminism. Anyone who wants "Equality" for women is a feminist and it's time we stop blaming just the guys and try to bring a change ourselves, in the mentality of other and in our own mentality too. As Gandhiji said "You must be the change you wish to see in the world." Write, share and read feminist posts, whatever suits you. Spread the word. Know what being a feminist truly means and be one too. Only then we can strive towards a healthier society.

The bitter truth!

Lets see some Truths of out society and Our leaders!

The far out vision...
True enough we all know about the law of nature "Survival of the fittest" And the same gets applied everywhere. People who have resources get everything but what about the deficient? Why we don't do anything for them? For Development It's important for overall development. I hope people understand it soon! Somewhere it's roots lie in corruption and politics...

The unstoppable growth....
Unresulted debates on corruption have been made are are still going on! There is like no stop to it! Out fathers have fought for it...Now it's our turn! Roots are stronger but not impossible to cut!

The Voice Never Heard
What the fact lies beneath is...Politics is involved everywhere! Politics swallows up the voice raised for improvement and it always remains unheard!

The banks...
Yes! the vote banks! I don't know you people have heard of it or not but I have read about it a lot! Every political party has a set vote bank! It's probably visible that people from one caste mostly vote for one common party cos that party works in their favour (or even not) Either way Politics works the way it wants!

"Healthy" Competition!?
When first The reservation was taken into consideration by the constitution it was made only valid for first 10 years and only for Harijans. But Politicians for their good are still stretching reservations till now! to maintain their vote banks! This reservation is not removing the caste system but making it more prominent! More and more castes are now demanding reservations! Is it right if the deserving ones our deprived form what they deserve????

Some compromises...
We all know about the casting couch business of Bollywood! But It just not stops with just Bollywood! It has it's roots in every field! You can't even think of! Even politics as the news has been heard on news channels...We don't know it's true or not! But still possibilities are of any option! Business is also filled with compromises! Not only for women but for men too...

Prostitution
It's never by choice always due to some kind of pressure on girls! Sometimes girls under age of 18 are kidnapped and sent to this business for making money! sometimes some girls have to do this because they find no other choice for survival!

Beggar Buisness....
I think everyone has seen Slumdog Millionaire...We all our aware with this side! Children are kidnapped of any age and raised to become beggars!!!!

Female Foeticide...
I think many people believe that girls don't have right to live! Okay so kill all the girls and eventually you'll be left with no boys too! I think those people forget that only girls have blessing to give birth to a new life! Or If you prefer your boys to be gay you can continue...! Okay no? so you let her live...then? It doesn't stop there....people even snatch from them their rights to get educated, to have freedom to do what they want...they are treated like slaves and are married are considered burden....When will this small mentality of people grow big?

Child Marriage
We all know about the show Balika Vadhu It's about children who are forced to get married in small age and what they go through after marriage... At the age of playing an studying...The innocence of these small kids is snatched from them! Mostly it is problematic to the girls...as the boys are given what they require but girls suffer many other problems. they are required to work at homes and not play.... get pregnant at small age causing miscarriages and even death of girls...sometimes their husbands leave them when they find love outside or if unnatural death is caused to the boy at small age the girls are held responsible! It's banned by the constitution but still goes on secretively at many small villages.

Money Matters...
I think you all know about the dowry system and also that it is illegal! But do people who still continue it know about that?

And He kept saying...(and kept doing!)
Domestic violence is another bitter truth of India! Woman are beaten up in houses for not bringing dowry or for other reasons! They feel helpless and can't seek for ways to get out of this circle of torture! Some commit suicides some are beaten or burned to death! Some who are stronger are successful to come out! What about who are not?

Molestation!
Everybody knows about the recent case of molestation in Guwahati! A girl being tortured by 30 men...watched by crowd of 100+ and no one has the guts to save her but had guts to video tape it! And this country preaches that Women our God's gift! It's the same country that worship's Woman As Goddesses! Harsh Reality Difficult to digest!

Honour Killing
India is a country with rich cultural heritage and diversity! It's the house of many religions! But I think many people don't consider it "One" therefore intercaste or inter religion marriages our not supported! But some people have so much hatred that they feel that Honour killing is the only option left! Let me explain it's meaning: In order to save their "pride" they kill their own family member who was once beloved to them! I don't feel there is any kind of honour in it! The constitution has given rights to people to make their own personal decisions and no one has the right to snatch them! No one is given the right to kill.... make love not kill.....

AND THE LIST DOES NOT END HERE!!! MAYBE THERE ARE MORE FACES OF OUR "CULTURAL HERITAGE'...... CAN YOU MAKE A DIFFERENCE? DON'T KEEP ON ASKING WHO WILL CHANGE IT...BE THE CHANGE!

Yoga: A Way To Make Life Better!

So, I think i need to tell everyone what is one of the most beautiful thing that has happened in my life! And that thing is YOGA! People tell about their love, their friends and all kinds of stuffs like that but why i chose this one first is because of the person who has started this awesome Yoga Society in my City 'Ujjain Yoga Life Society'. That person is Pt. Radheshyam Mishra. He is one person i adore a lot!! He has taught so many things to me and my family!

Actually i was not the person in my family who got in touch with yoga first! It was my parents. My mother always wanted to do yoga, she had a special attraction for it! But, my father is kinda lazy in these kind of things!!! Uncle, was a friend of my father as he is a clerk in University and my father is a professor in one of the colleges here! So, they started yoga from a camp held here and as my father mother started losing weight my mother's problems like Asthma And allergy also Started getting away Just like her fat! there was a magical change in her which i LOVED!!!

Still....I was not convinced enough...I totally thought all this would be so boring!!! Boring practices, boring people and boring uncle teaching them boring asanas. My mother father convinced me a lots of times but i never listened to them! Even, I met uncle in one Marriage Ceremony and he was A handsome, Dashing Young Man!! I could've never imagined him like that! But he was!!! But still i didn't join! I'm a stubborn person myself!

Then, came the time when i started this magical journey like i wanted it to be like!!!! Want to guess how it started?? I bet you can never! NEVER! Okay.. So let me Erase all those questions from your mind and finally tell you!! It started with a PICNIC! Yoga PICNIC! an outing by all Awesome Yoga People! Hahahahah....yes! And as I never Imagined Those people were one of their kind! All fashionable ladies in jeans and tops..and all cool men out there! having fun talking about Hilarious moments in their practice sessions and Playing Games! I made friends with Daughter of Radheshyam Uncle and it was really a beautiful friendship! We now share many secrets with Each other, Had had awesome fun in International Yoga Seminar (IYS-2) at the book stall! And that's how my journey began!

Yoga has taught a lot...not just to make our body healthy but also how to make are mind healthy! How to live life perfectly! It has taught me to be positive...to love my body and to HELP! People here are all involved in great works of helping the poor, health checkup, etc and to spread the word about yoga!

They rejuvenate lives and bring out your true self and that is one thing that makes you stand out!

They build personality and make you a better human being! Uncle also takes English classes and Personality classes for people who need it! Because he even deals with People outside India and he needs his people to interact With them too. He has Been abroad too many times! My mother is now Spiritually attached to yoga! She is learning yoga and Uncle adores her a lot! She is one person he trusts a lot! For seminars for his outings and for various camps!

I suggest that all people must do yoga! Because it not only keeps you healthy and fit but also makes your body flexible! It does not involve sweating and getting tired! it involves exercise and relaxation at the same time! It's not like heavy workouts that do not let you be fresh and fit and healthy and make you more tired! It's a natural and healthy way..and makes you build strong healthy body and mind! To build Your concentration as well!!!

Your's In YOga!
Namaste :)
